India: 28 arrested for gang-raping a girl for nine months
Local media in India say police are investigating the case of a 15-year-old girl who was allegedly gang-raped for nearly nine months. Mumbai police have so far arrested 28 people on rape charges. The series began in January this year.
According to local reports, the alleged gang-rape of the girl started when her boyfriend raped her and made a video of the incident.
Authorities say the gang rape took place several times in rural areas around Mumbai. These areas include Badlapur, Dombivali, Marbad and Rabale. Police are investigating the alleged video and will look into how the crime was delayed. Police officials say most of the suspects are students between the ages of 16 and 23. The girl reported the incident to the police for the first time on Wednesday. According to news channel NDTV, the girl has registered the names of 33 attackers and said that she knew almost all the people.
